Connect ChatGPT to TellTell
Add TellTell as a custom MCP plugin in ChatGPT, sign in, and choose what it can access.
Before you connect
TellTell’s public ChatGPT listing is pending. Until it is available, you can create a personal integration with TellTell’s remote MCP server. This uses ChatGPT’s current custom plugin flow; no TellTell package download is needed.
You need a TellTell Admin account and access to custom MCP plugins in ChatGPT on the web. Availability depends on your ChatGPT account, plan, and workspace permissions. If the option is missing or blocked, check with your workspace administrator. A TellTell subscription does not enable ChatGPT features.
Add the custom plugin
Use the complete URL, including /mcp.
https://mcp.telltell.co/mcp- Open ChatGPT Plugins
On the web, open Plugins, select +, then Add custom MCP server. Name it TellTell and enter the server URL above.
- Choose OAuth
Select OAuth authentication and automatic client registration (DCR) when offered. Let ChatGPT discover TellTell’s authentication service. Do not supply an API key, bearer token, or client ID/secret override. If the form requires credentials you do not have, stop and contact TellTell support.
- Create and install
Review ChatGPT’s connection warning, then choose Create as a plugin. Find the resulting personal plugin and install it.
- Authorize your TellTell account
Complete the TellTell browser sign-in when prompted. Select the intended account and grant only the permissions you need. For a first check, choose View People and View teams and groups, leaving editing and bulk edits disabled. Each organizer signs in separately.
OpenAI’s current setup instructions: Add custom MCP server. Screen labels may change as ChatGPT evolves.
Check the connection first
Start a new Work chat, type @, and select your installed TellTell plugin. Then use this prompt:
Use TellTell’s telltell_context_get tool to check which account and permissions are connected. Do not read directory records or change anything.Confirm the returned account and permissions. Once they are correct, try a small read such as “Show up to five TellTell groups.” Do not create contacts or send test email just to check connectivity.
See OpenAI’s plugin quickstart for installing and invoking a personal plugin in Work.
Manage permissions or disconnect
In TellTell, open Settings → Connections → Agents → My account to narrow permissions or revoke your connection. Admins can manage account-wide connections under All accounts. Adding permissions requires reconnecting and fresh consent. Bulk edits require a separate Admin opt-in for that connection.
Revoke access in TellTell to remove the grant immediately. Uninstalling the ChatGPT plugin or signing out of ChatGPT is not a substitute for TellTell-side revocation.
